Summer Skin Myths, Busted

Let’s talk summer skincare.
The sun is shining, the sleeves are shorter, and the glow is calling, but with warmer weather comes a lot of skincare myths that just won’t quit.
We're here to lovingly (but firmly) bust them. Because the best glow comes from real knowledge and intentional rituals.
Let’s set the record straight.
☀️ MYTH 1: “I Don’t Need SPF Because I Have Melanin”
TRUTH: Melanin is magical, but it’s not a shield.
Yes, deeper skin tones have some natural protection, but UV rays still penetrate, causing damage, premature ageing, and making hyperpigmentation worse. SPF is a must year-round, but especially in summer.
DO THIS: Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every single day, and reapply if you’re in direct sunlight.
💦 MYTH 2: “My Skin’s Oily in Summer, So I Can Skip Moisturiser”
TRUTH: Oil doesn’t mean hydration, and skipping moisture can make things worse.
When skin is dehydrated, it often overcompensates with more oil. Hydration (water) and moisture (oils and butters) work together to keep skin balanced.
DO THIS: Use lightweight layers like our Tea Tree & Niacinamide Toner to hydrate, followed by our Rejuvenating Facial Serum for moisture and glow. Finish with SPF.
🧴 MYTH 3: “Heavy Products Are a No-Go in Summer”
TRUTH: It’s not about heavy vs light, it’s about intentional layering.
Some oils and butters (like raw shea) are deeply nourishing but still breathable when used properly. You don’t have to ditch your favourites, just adjust the amount and how you apply them.
DO THIS: Apply your Whipped Shea Butter to damp skin for a lighter, more dewy finish. Use it on dry spots only if your skin’s feeling extra.
🌞 MYTH 4: “The Sun Will Clear Up My Acne”
TRUTH: Sun exposure might temporarily dry out breakouts, but it can damage your skin barrier, darken post-acne marks, and lead to long-term sensitivity.

TRUTH: Just like you change your wardrobe when the seasons shift, your skincare needs to evolve too.
Warmer temps, more sweat, and increased sun exposure can throw your skin out of balance if you don’t adapt.
